Welcome to building websites for dummies and thank you for taking the time to see if I can help you with your internet goals, whatever they may be. You can also visit me at Wealthy Affiliate, my online home and where all the action is.
My Background
I have had several career paths in my 52 years and each has given me success in many ways. As a child, I wanted to be a vet apparently. Well I ended up with quite a few cats and dogs but no veterinary skills unfortunately. My teenage dream was journalism, music or TV celebrity journalism to be precise. Okay I wanted to be Paula Yates and to be married to Bob Geldolf. I still feel so sad at how their story turned out.
A Degree in performing arts led me into the music industry and the bright lights of London. But the lights were not so bright and the industry was as you expect. Too many Divas and not enough money for those that actually worked and I was interested in money.
The want for money led me to Insurance sales. Great money but ultimately soul less. A move then into management in photographic sales which I loved as it was people focused, learning people management skills was a bonus.
Along came the 3 children and full time motherhood, though I always kept my hand in by selling children’s books and being on several committees and often chairing those committees ….. more skills and careers added to my list.
It was as the children grew and as school finally took my last child I became involved in network marketing with a Japanese healthcare company. I loved the ethos of network marketing and that helping others meant helping yourself too. Financially, with the products and most importantly personal development. I worked hard and rose through the ranks but after 5 years I realised that personal development was my passion and training people was my forte.
I then took a full time job as a corporate trainer, covering many industries up and down the country. I trained groups and individuals in management and personal development including presentation skills which was my favourite. After 4 years I was made redundant but set up my own company doing the same thing but for myself.
My next career happened by accident. My daughter and niece opened a vintage shop but found running your own business was not as simple as they thought so I spent time trying to organise them by getting systems up and running and the shop running smoothly and profitably by adding fancy dress on the first floor, whilst also doing my training. Before I knew it, the daughter and niece had moved on and I was the proud owner of a vintage and fancy dress shop!
Long story short the premises were sold and the new landlords practically doubled the rent. It was a major struggle so I just left and moved all the stock into my home. A financial resolution eventually happened in their favour! I was obviously online with my own website that someone else built and managed and linked to fancy dress supplier and I had Facebook pages and eBay. I had to get rid of stock, I couldn’t move! So I slogged away on eBay to reduce fancy dress stock, closed the fancy dress website with the intention of focusing on vintage which was always a love of mine.
Instead I am 49 and I have a nervous breakdown ! A real one which gave me a fortnights stay in hospital and a long haul trip back to normality. I continued with selling on eBay and learned to crochet ! Taught myself from the internet and magazines…. I think it was therapy.
Slowly as recovering I realised that rushing around the world at speed was no longer an option but I still wanted to work and to learn. But I had missed out on the internet generation, building websites and blogs. I knew my way around Facebook and Instagram, just! I spent time looking at lots of make money online schemes and even joined a few only to find they wanted a lot of my money to buy what they knew …. charlatans !!
And then I found wealthy affiliates. A program that taught me so much and helped me to make a website before even a penny had changed hands. I now have three websites that I have built myself, with the guiding hands of wealthy affiliates systems and the community which is always glad to help if you get stuck. I could not have hoped for a better next career than affiliate marketing and building websites that are about my interests and skill sets.

BUILDING WEBSITES FOR DUMMIES
YOU ARE NOT A DUMMY AND NEITHER AM I but I thought I was before I found wealthy affiliates !
My aim with this website is to give you all the tools you need to build whatever you want within wealthy affiliates. To give you a guiding hand and help you achieve your website goals.
If you ever need a hand or have any questions, feel free to leave them below and I will be more than happy to help you out.
Wow, you seem to have been very busy in your life.
I think it is very important to have ideas and dreams even if most of them does lead anywhere or lead to something completely different than you imagined it would.
I have also had a very varied journey, working as a diving instructor, in an embassy and today as a trucker. Moving abroad to move in with a new love and then moving on when the relationship broke.
Your ambition to help others is a great one. Many people have great ideas and dream of a different life but they get frustrated with the obstacles in the way and sadly some give up before they have a chance to succeed.
I wish you all the best in your endavour to help others build their websites.
Thank you for your comments and your good wishes for my success. One of my favourite sayings is “Sometimes on the way to a dream, you get lost and find a new one” and I believe it is true in lots of cases.
Seems to me the long way ’round makes for a very interesting trip! Thanks for sharing your story. The part I find inspirational is your continuing to persevere.
A friend of mine is a marathon runner. He says the most important thing to always remember when you’re in the middle of a race and you’re all run-out and can’t push that one last centimeter more is that when you fall down, it’s a good thing to fall forward. Then when you pick yourself up, you’re still heading in the right direction.
Hi Netta and thank you for taking the time to drop by my site. What a great analogy… always remember to fall forward. Yes it has been an interesting life but without an interesting bumpy old life we would have no stories to tell.
So many careers and occupations and skills. I am sure a person like you are can teach people lots of things and guide them and encourage them.
I think it’s a brilliant idea of a site, and you have a very good approach to it. Go on with it…
Being one of those you address with your site at (tss- don’t tell anybody…)I think I will be visiting your site for some ideas and inspiration, and, most surely, help… 🙂
Hi Vera and thank you so much for your kind comments.
