When you are a business owner, marketing can be one of the most difficult things that you have to do… And one of the hardest to get right.
There are so many routes that you could take, and so many areas that you could focus upon like social media ads and marketing funnels, It can leave you feeling like you have no idea where to begin. What if you splash out a lot of cash, only to find that you have wasted it by choosing a marketing method that just doesn’t work for your business?
However, there are 5 key areas to focus on in marketing, that usually work out for any small business, and I have noted them down, for you here.
#1: Social media
Social media marketing is something that every business should be taking part in, no matter how big or small they are. Almost everybody uses social media in the modern day, whether it’s Facebook or Instagram, and you would be missing out on an easy way to reach out to your potential customers if you didn’t create business accounts here.
Paid ads could also be of use to you, but be careful and make sure you know what you are doing first. You can easily lose a lot of money. Take a read of my checklist for paid ads.
#2: Web design
Having the right website is key to your success, and it is one of those things that everybody will look at.
If your clients believe that your site is of poor quality, or that it looks too spammy, then they will be out of there quicker than you can say ‘get a web designer!’ so don’t make this mistake.
Keep it professional, appealing, and as suitable for your target market if you possibly can. All websites can be changed and different themes are available everywhere.
If you want to make an impression on those in your field, and also those who may require your services, then heading to some events is a good idea. This gives you a platform with which you can establish yourself outside of the web, and really make some good contacts.
Whilst it may seem futile to take the local radio route, this couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, it’s the platform that reaches the widest variety of age groups and demographics, and it also allows you to catch people’s attention whilst they are on their commutes.
If you want your business to have a big impact locally, then see what you can do to advertise on one of your local channels.
#5: Word of mouth
OK, it’s pretty old school, I’ll give you that.
However, word of mouth has never stopped being a useful marketing tool, and no matter what business you own, you will get an increase in customers if your former happy customers recommend you to their friends.
Being a small business means that your survival will depend upon your reputation, so ensure that you give people something (good) to talk about.
