How To Be More Efficient At Work – 5 Tips For Success
When you feel like you’re falling behind and not working in the most efficient way possible, it can be really frustrating. No one likes feeling as if they’re not fulfilling their potential at work. We all want to be the best version of ourselves. So what can you do to work more efficiently at work? That’s what we’re going to talk about today, so read on and start putting what you learn into practice.
Start The Day In The Right Way
First of all, you will need to make sure that you begin your day in the right kind of way. You’ll be much speedier and more focused at work if you get up, do some exercise and eat a healthy and balanced breakfast. That’s the right way to get started ahead of work.
I may have just stated the obvious here but how many of you actually do it? Not many is my guess. Get up half an hour earlier and have a morning routine that sets you up for the day ahead.
Tackle Your Procrastination Problems Head-on
Procrastination is one of those things that we have all been guilty of at one time or another. If you know that there are certain situations in which you are more likely to procrastinate and waste time, then you should take steps to tackle those problems and tendencies in a more head-on kind of way.
If you are at your place of work, this might be at the start of the day. It is really easy to get to work make a coffee, chat to colleagues and put off actually starting work. Many people will lose at least half an hour in this way, every day and then feel rushed and frustrated trying to get all of the jobs done.
You may work from home and getting started is also very easy to avoid. It has been my downfall, more than once. Give yourself a start time and always stick to it no matter what. Open that laptop and get to work.
There may be other situations in which you know you procrastinate, after lunch, starting a new project or job. It doesn’t matter what or where, just be honest with yourself and minimise the risks.
Set Your Own Personal Deadlines
Even if there are no deadlines set by your boss for the work that you’re doing, you should try to set your own deadlines so that you don’t end up lacking that urgency. When you feel like you can get away with not working very fast in the office, it’s easy to just go slow. But if you have your own self-imposed deadlines to work to, this will be less of a problem.
This is even more important if you are your own boss. Running your own business large, small or just you, means that it is vital to set your own deadlines or else you will end up achieving nothing. It is the worst feeling in the world to feel as though you have achieved nothing at the end of the day.

Make Sure You Have Backup Supplies And A Backup Plan
When you run out of ink for your printer, it can derail your whole day. We have all done this, especially if you work from home, though it can happen in the office too.
The same applies to any of the other supplies you rely on each day. Be sure to head to the Cartridge Shop and similar places to ensure you always have backup supplies in case you run out sooner than expected. Anything that you use regularly and need to run your business should really be bought in bulk ( you will probably get it cheaper ) and ordered on a regular basis.
You should also have a backup plan for how you would work if your computer broke down or you experienced a power cut for example. We rely on an awful lot of technology when we have online businesses. And as I always say “technology is a marvellous things when it works!” But we all know that sometimes it doesn’t.
I personally have three devices I can access if one is not working. I much prefer my iPad but my laptop and Smartphone are always there as back ups and for different needs. Do not underestimate what you can do on a smartphone. I started this business with one as my laptop was broken and I didn’t yet own my iPad. I keep them all fully charged so the only thing that could go really go wrong is that my WiFi could go down but I still have data to use on my smartphone and Ipad even then.
If You’re Stuck, Move On And Return To It Later
One major cause of our efficiency problems is getting stuck on one thing and not being able to move past it. I know I have gotten myself so wrapped up in some minor technical aspect of my website that I have wasted hours of my time for no good reason.
When you do find yourself in this situation, you should try to make sure that you don’t stay stuck doing nothing all day because that’s obviously not going to be great from an efficiency point of view. It can be difficult to move on from the problem, if only it is just stuck in our minds. Try to stop stressing and do something else. You will be better off returning to the issue later with and with a refreshed outlook.
